G S Kidd Memorial School caters for the learning needs of students with severe intellectual, physical, behavioural and emotional disorders. It has been relocated to a new larger site with new state-of-the-art facilities, to cater for the school’s special needs students.
The vegetable garden has been designed to accommodate wheelchairs and is placed next to a developing classroom/kitchen area. Students attend cooking classes in a partnership with Gunnedah High School.
The program has been developed to teach young people about the origin of the food they eat through designing and establishing their own garden, growing and harvesting their own produce, preparing and cooking simple dishes and developing a greater understanding and appreciation of a healthy lifestyle.
